BOBSLEIGH TRACK

HARRACHOV

After three years of preparation, on 14 April, 2004, První bobová, LLC, started building the second bobsled track in Krkonoše, namely in the traditional mountain centre of the western part of the Krkonoše Mountains, in Harrachov. The whole project is situated only 400 m from downtown Harrachov, at the northwest edge of the Anenské Valley. On Thursday, 15 July, 2004 at 4 p.m., operation of the second bobsled track for the general public in the Krkonoše Mountains was commenced in the presence of important representatives of communal and entrepreneurial spheres of the Krkonoše region.

The bobsled track in Harrachov, together with transportation equipment, is approximately 1,000 metres long, has a 38 metre drop, an average incline of 6%, and a maximum incline of 12%. It has 17 curves and two attractive above-ground crossings. The tow, as well as the track, is floodlit to enable evening rides. For the first time in the Czech Republic, the stainless steel track and tow channel is heated along the full length. In order to provide perfect heating, 5 km of heating wire was used, and several strands of the heating wire are applied to the bottom of the full length of the track and travelling body of the tow. This solution significantly improved the quality of operation after rain or in winter, during a snowfall, when the track dries or defrosts very quickly.

Our company selected the world-recognised leading technology which promises a remarkable and highly attractive experience during the ride. This technology was patented by its German manufacturer who is the only company in the world that manufactures it in this form, from stainless steel. The Harrachov Bobsled Track has become as sought-after a target of visits and trips of domestic, as well as international public, as its older sister in Špindlerův Mlýn. Even the owner of the supply company highly regarded the Harrachov Bobsled Track during his personal visit to our company and proclaimed it to be one of his best naturally integrated projects in the whole world.

And how do you ride on the bobsled track? After getting on board a bobsled in the departure station, the bobsled and rider is led by gravity onto the cable transport device, which will pull the bobsled rider to the start. At this point, the bobsled is automatically disconnected from the cable transport and enters the profile of the bobsled track. After entering the channel of the bobsled track, the bobsled rider regulates their speed and style of driving with a highly efficient brake ensuring the ride is a remarkable and extremely attractive experience. In accordance with safety regulations, the whole course is certified not only in compliance with the EU regulations, but also with TÜV regulations. When operating regulations are observed, it is absolutely safe, and enables among other things, independent rides for children of approximate school age.

With regards to the needs of uniform promotion, we named the attractive projects of bobsled tracks in the Krkonoše Mountains and the MonkeyPark rope centres in Špindlerův Mlýn and Harrachov “HappyWorld”. They were designed for the general public, e.g. from 2-year old children (accompanied by older persons) to the senior category of visitors of the Krkonoše Mountains. The wheeled bobsleds can be occupied by one or two persons.

The vicinity of the bobsled track braking stretch was finished as a forest park with benches, a passing stream with a wooden trunk and water gates that can be freely manipulated and are very popular with kids, a forest lake, and a tranquil resting grass plot on the non-commercial project called “Water World”.

Not only does the permanent forest park finish off the whole locality, but the close proximity of a small weir on Kamenice creek and the location of the project inside the forest create an immensely soothing and pleasant atmosphere for all visitors of this unique project.

Even non-riding or child-accompanying visitors will appreciate the pleasant local refreshments. Despite price turbulences, especially in the energies sector, the prices of tickets have not been increased during the 3 years of operation of the Harrachov Bobsled Track.
